What are commercial video ads and why use them?
A video advertisement, like those you see on TV or the internet, is a short (60 seconds or less, but ideally 30 seconds) branding-oriented video that promotes your company, product or service. A commercial video is inherently high level and should not dive into the details of what you do and how you do it, like an explainer video would.
An advertisement is meant to grab attention, garner interest, and get people excited about what you do. It’s a teaser designed to draw in potential customers. If you’re working on online-only content, we think a digital ad campaign is one of the best ways to really spread your brand message and also make the most of your commercial video production efforts.
When and how should I use video advertising?
A video ad should be used at the top of the funnel. They’re most useful for generating awareness and excitement for a product or service. We suggest foregoing television, and posting your ads on YouTube, Facebook, streaming services, and other digital channels in the form of a digital ad campaign. We often develop several videos, either targeted versions of the same video or different videos leveraging the same concept, as a part of our commercial projects.
Just keep in mind, to get traction, you’ll likely need to invest some marketing dollars to promote your spot. Don’t expect an overnight viral sensation though a few of our paid ads quickly racked up over 1 million views.

Crafting the Perfect Treament
A treatment is a brief with big picture ideas for the direction of the creative, this isn’t where we dive into all the specifics and nitty gritty of the shoot and project, that’s later down the line. So remember to keep this big picture and concept.
A treatment is a short summary of what we want to communicate from the consumers perspective. In other words, we are translating the business goals into a creative that’s directed towards consumers.
For example, if a business wants to sell more of a certain product, the treatment would translate that problem to the consumers point of view by breaking down the target audience, the consumer problem, the consumer goal, and the single message.
It creates a goal for the creative we’re going to be creating, because without a goal video & photos for a business or brand are useless.

Drones are changing the industry, and revolutionizing a lot of the ways things have been done for years. Farmers are using them to survey their land, and herd their cattle. Architects are using them to 3D scan their buildings. Law enforcement agents are using them to catch reckless drivers, and to do recon before potentially going into a dangerous situation. Companies like UPS and Amazon are delivering packages in a matter of hours after a purchase. Search and rescue teams use them to look for lost peoples. Gas and electric companies are flying now instead of getting a lineman out in a precarious position to check on a meter or windmill. And of course, photographers and cinematographers are using them to create art- getting shots that you would need a helicopter for in the past. With all that said, I hope I told you something you didn't already know! I’m certified through the FAA Part 107, which means that I can legally fly for you or your company- whatever the need be!
How do you measure success for a commercial video production?
Unlike most video content, view count is one of the leading indicators of success when it comes to commercials. If no one is seeing it, the ad doesn’t have a chance to do it’s intended job. Like we mentioned earlier, getting a significant number of views may require allocating some budget towards promoting your spot. Once views are up, keep an eye on engagement to see how much of your ad people are watching. For a short 15-30 second spot, engagement rates should be around 80%-90%.
How much does a commercial video production cost?
Depending on the style and complexity, a commercial video production typically costs between $5,000-$50,000. Budget factors include: style and complexity of the video, length of video, where you anticipate the spot airing, licensing fees for music and talent, etc. If you’re working on a series of videos for your commercial ad campaign, the per video price may be reduced as you increase the number of videos in that production cycle.
